Stationary Sources of Air Pollution

Stationary sources of air pollution, including factories, refineries, boilers, and power plants, emit a variety of air pollutants. The Clean Air Act directs EPA to control these emissions by developing and implementing:
  • National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP)
  • New Source Performance Standards and Emission Guidelines for criteria and other air pollutants (NSPS/EG)
  • National standards or guidelines for consumer and commercial products for ozone forming volatile organic compounds (Control Techniques Guidelines (CTG), Alternative Control Techniques (ACT), and Clean Air Act section 183(e) rules)
